Passover and the crucifixion of Yeshua: the prophetic fulfillment.
Introduction
The relationship between Passover and the crucifixion of Yeshua (Jesus) belongs to the core of the Biblical message. What began as a historical deliverance from Egypt turns out to be a prophetic foreshadowing of the ultimate redemption through the Messiah.
The crucifixion did not take place coincidentally during Passover — it fulfills exactly what this feast has portrayed for centuries.
1. The origin of Passover (Exodus 12)
Passover was instituted during the exodus from Egypt:
- Take a lamb without defect
- Slaughter it on the fourteenth day
- Apply the blood to the doorposts
- Eat it with unleavened bread
“The blood will be a sign for you… when I see the blood, I will pass over you.”
Exodus 12:13)
Meaning:
When the angel of death went through Egypt:
- Houses with blood were spared
- Houses without blood were struck
Principle: blood protects against judgment.
2. The Passover lamb as a prophetic symbol
Characteristics of the lamb:
- Without defect → perfection
- No bone broken → specific fulfillment
- Substitutionary death → salvation for others
“You must not break any of its bones.”
(Exodus 12:46)
- Substitutionary death
“The life of the flesh is in the blood… it is the blood that makes atonement.”
(Leviticus 17:11)
This points forward to a greater reality.
3. Yeshua as the true Passover Lamb
The New Testament makes the connection explicit:
- “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world”
- “Messiah, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed”
“Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.”
(John 1:29)
“For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.”
(1 Corinthians 5:7)

Yeshua fully fulfills Passover
Passover is the blueprint of the crucifixion.
Yeshua did not only die during Passover,
He IS the Passover Lamb.
What began with blood on doorposts ends with blood on the cross.
“For God so loved the world…”
