The study of the Word of God in digital form is strongly recommended, because a printed copy often confines the reader to the perspective of a particular translator, denomination, or theological tradition. Every translation presents a certain understanding of the Gospel. Therefore, it is necessary to seek the plain truth by comparing different translations, interpretations, and manuscript sources. The large number of denominations has resulted in a large number of doctrinal viewpoints. Such diversity inevitably leads to confusion and, at times, deception. For that reason, every claim should be examined carefully rather than accepted without question. According to the words of the Lord Yeshua, the Holy Spirit was sent to guide believers into truth. The Holy Spirit is the true Teacher and Guide, not any denomination, church institution, or religious authority. The Scriptures serve as a compass pointing toward the way, but they are not the Way itself. The Way is found in a living relationship with God through His Spirit.
Jn 15:26 (AMP)
26 But the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will cause you to recall (will remind you of, bring to your remembrance) everything I have told you.
Digital study provides the opportunity to compare books, translations, manuscripts, and interpretations within seconds. Through careful comparison, truth becomes easier to discern. Significant doctrinal differences are often found in seemingly small words such as “in,” “through,” or other subtle translation choices. In some cases, words have even been added that are absent from the original text.
Differences exist between all Bible translations. For this reason, consulting multiple versions is essential. Early translators frequently chose readability over literal accuracy. As a result, translations were often influenced by the theological traditions of the translators themselves. At times, doctrinal assumptions affected the wording of the text, shaping the reader’s understanding accordingly.
Throughout much of church history, the interpretation of Scripture was largely restricted to clergy. Reading and writing skills were often limited to a small educated class. In the modern digital age, however, manuscripts, translations, lexicons, and scholarly resources are widely accessible. Claims made by churches, pastors, and denominations can now be examined directly against the available evidence.
Many modern translations are based upon earlier translations rather than directly upon the original Hebrew and Greek manuscripts. Each additional translation step introduces the possibility of further interpretation and doctrinal influence.
For this reason, serious students are encouraged to return to the manuscript evidence whenever possible. It should also be remembered that divine inspiration applies to the original writings, not necessarily to every subsequent translation. The reasons behind many translation differences are not difficult to identify. In some cases, words or phrases appear in certain translations that are absent from the underlying manuscripts. Such additions can significantly influence the reader’s understanding of a doctrine. As a result, theological viewpoints may be reinforced through translation choices rather than through the original text itself. This observation is not limited to a single Bible translation. Similar examples can be found in various translations and in different passages. For this reason, relying exclusively on one printed Bible or a single digital translation may prevent the reader from recognizing how interpretation, doctrine, and translation decisions affect the text.
It should not be assumed that every pastor, teacher, or church leader intentionally misrepresents Scripture. Many are sincere in their faith and genuinely desire to teach the Gospel. Nevertheless, theological traditions, denominational education, and long-standing interpretations can influence understanding, often without conscious awareness. When only one translation or one theological framework is consulted, misconceptions may remain unchallenged for many years.
